In their music, Relatives blend the dissonant tonalities of 20th century music with the unadorned folk songs of Appalachia. The group was created in New York City in the fall of 2007 by Ian Davis, Katie Vogel and Gabriel Gall. Together they self-released two EPs, They Love You Well (2009) and Tardy Mark (2011) as well as a full-length album entitled The Relatives (2011), released on the Museum People label. In the fall of 2011, Gall left the group and Vogel and Davis reconfigured with Ross Edwards (vocals and keys) as well as continued to work with bassist, Spencer Zahn and a rotating cast of drummers: Ian Chang, Booker Stardrum, and Jeremy Gustin. In September of 2012, Vogel and Davis embarked on their first European/UK/Ireland tour. During this tour, they gave their first public performances as a duo. Inspired by the reception of these shows, Relatives has continued to write and perform as a duo as well as play as a full-band ensemble. This past summer, as a duo, Relatives played shows all over Ireland to promote the release of their new EP, The Signs That Mock Me As I Go.
